Many of us struggle to find a sense of meaning and purpose in our lives.

This isn’t just because it’s an elusive and existential thing to do; but when our social environments and economic realities narrow and obscure what really matters, it can be really hard to know where to start. Often, we don’t begin to examine what makes us happy until we’re in a dark place seeking help or searching for tools to build emotional resilience and self-compassion from scratch.

What Very Powerful Foundation proposes is different; Our community-driven model helps people build these vital skills before they feel lost. We create a supportive space where individuals can proactively cultivate their unique strengths and connect with others through low-barrier psycho-educational workshops, 1:1 coaching, and physical and creatively expressive activities.

Positive Psychology is one powerful, evidence-based foundation for this work, and it has shaped our pilot programs so far. However we are not dogmatic and offer a spectrum of entry points because people are different; what works to foster self-understanding and growth in one person may look entirely different to someone else. Someone might show up to skate and feel good doing that. Another person may be seeking out an educational workshop or a supportive co-learning environment. All are welcome.

At its heart, what makes the VPF model inspiring is its departure from traditional charity frameworks. We aren’t targeting underserved groups to drive donations. Instead, we ask: How can we do this differently?

Asking this question is a way to reflexively ensure that people who see barriers in accessing meaningful tools - for personal growth, self awareness or community connection - know they’re deserving of the same types of programs, gym memberships or skills training programs that are otherwise cost-prohibitive or exclusive.

In our programs, every participant’s experience is valued equally, whether they are a coach, an established creative or a first time boxer. Showing up for each other and honouring that diversity of experience is what makes this work very powerful.
